The final play of LSU A&M in 2012 was funny.

Some folks like to live inside the box. Anything outside they don't know what to do with.

Cam Newton, Vince Young, same thing.

Lmao no they were not.

Vince was fantastic HOF’er. You cannot compare him to Newton. Newton willed an average team to a championship. Vince Young was a superstar player on a great team. Not even remotely close. Newton was a bigger highlight machine than Manziel id day.

I'm sorry if you missed Manziel while watching Joe Burrow play textbook midwest football.

2019 LSU ran a spread. A&M ran an air raid. Doesn’t sound like you really grasp the concepts of schemes and just need some permanent stimulation to keep you interested. To each their own.

He was extremely over-rated and the majority of his plays were based on luck.

He was slippery, that's about it.

Manziel had talent but wasn’t that good. The team around him was outstanding. His offensive line all became pros and he has a future NFL hall of famer catching those wounded ducks Manziel would just throw up into the air. He was waaaay overrated.

Of all the things that get said about him, this is probably the most uninformed.

In 2012, Mike Evans was playing his second year of organized football at any level. He was the yards leader among WR’s, but not by much and Ryan Swope had more TD’s. Evans was much more of an issue in 2013.

He certainly benefitted from a great OL, but much of what he did that wowed you was outside the pocket. Not sure how a great OL is the difference maker there.

He also completed passes at something near 70%, AND he led the SEC in rushing.

Lots to make of his off the field stuff, but to say he just “got lucky” in 2012 is just absurd.

Manziels Heisman season was based on padding stats against crappy teams and a bunch of luck against Alabama, a win that was actually due to A&M's defense. A&M's 2012 schedule was fricking pathetic, and your HC left him games well into garbage time.

Against good defenses he was shut down over and over.

He was the easiest to predict bust in the history of the NFL.

lol maybe you only remember him for the few bama highlights everyone replays that yes, had some luck involved.

watch his highlights objectively and see how often he was scrambling, throwing downfield while off balance and hit receivers in stride

...more accurate in college than any other QB mentioned in this thread (Burrow, Young, Newton, Brady, etc)

A&M played 3 good defenses in 2012. LSU, Florida and Alabama.

Against LSU Manziel had 0 TD's, and 3 Interceptions.

Against Florida he had 1 rushing TD

Against Alabama, he fumbled the ball, has it bounce back up into his hands where he throws it for a touchdown and had a bunch of other lucky plays. One of his only 2 TD's in that game.

Even then it was the A&M defense who got the win that day, not Manziel. As AJ threw 2 of the 3 total interceptions he made all year in that game alone.

Dude got credit for things other people did.

Which means less than zero in the context of the point that's been made here about Manziel.

One side is talking about must-see TV and the other is talking about the boredom on Sundays, and the predictability of standard-issue play that leads to Sundays.

You talking about Manziel or every QB that has ever lived??

...and that's your argument against a guy most known for making something out of nothing?

Most QB's don't live on bullsh*te hype.

You guys compare him to players like Burrow and it's fricking pathetic and not even remotely comparable.

He was slippery, that's it.

He wasn't must see TV for me. Especially since he rarely played good opponents, and didn't look good at all when he did.

Maybe for people who don't understand the game.

Go ahead and name the must watch TV games I must have missed. You think people are big on watching A&M play multiple FCS teams every year?

He got shut down against good defenses unless he was rewarded for some slippery sh*te.

And if I was just going to hate on QB, shouldn't I be hating on players like Cam Newton and Burrow as well? Yet it's very clear those QB's elevated their teams and won the big games. Manziel never did that.

Manziel single-handedly elevated A&M’s level of play. These were some of Saban’s best defensive teams and yet he torched them like they were nothing.

He was the first of his kind. In that era, teams were not carried by QBs as much as they are now. Dude will forever be a legend in CFB.

Johnny football's entire game was running around evading sacks, and then throwing up a jump ball to Evans. Without Evans he would have barely been a footnote to aggy football.

Johnny 8-ball idolized Vince Young and wanted to play just like him. Hell, he even got Longhorn ink while he was still in HS.

Not only was the SEC at the time not ready for Big12 (or CUSA in the case of aggy) type offense, they also weren't ready for a QB who wasn't the typical pocket passer or option runner. However everyone adjusted (even Saban who was diehard ground and pound) with similar offenses and defenses with more speed to defend such a spectacle. That's why Johnny Foosball couldn't replicate his success in 2013.
